Nature the Artist, born Tomás João, is a Portuguese contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, photography, video and street installation. Active since 2016, he developed an approach centred on the belief that nature is not merely a subject, but an artist in its own right. Formerly working under the name Forest Dump, he gradually moved away from direct authorship, allowing caves, forests, seas and other natural environments to become the primary creative force. Through found forms, organic processes and site-responsive interventions, Nature the Artist explores beauty, authorship and humanity’s relationship with the natural world, positioning himself as a conduit rather than the sole creator.
