The lowdown on Lazarides

Lazarides – St. Werburgh

Bristol, United Kingdom

Steve Lazarides (b. 1969) is the man who first brought Banksy to the world. From 1997 to 2009, as his photographer, agent, and close collaborator, he captured more than 12,000 images of Banksy’s most iconic, and now mostly vanished, works. His photographs are not just records, but artworks in their own right, rare witnesses to the rise of a cultural phenomenon. With much of Banksy’s early street work now lost, Lazarides’s photographs endure as rare records, preserving the urgency and wit of a cultural phenomenon at its rise.
