New Banksy Statue in London: A Suited Figure, a Billowing Flag, and the Edge of a Plinth
A new Banksy statue appeared on Waterloo Place in central London on the morning of 29 April 2026. A suited figure stands atop a plinth, caught mid-stride, moving forward with complete conviction. His face is entirely obscured by a billowing flag. One more step and he moves beyond the edge. Banksy’s signature is engraved discreetly on the reverse of the plinth, though the artist has yet to confirm the work through his official channels, instagram or official website.

Waterloo Place is a setting shaped by intent. Conceived in the early nineteenth century to commemorate victory over Napoleon, it forms a grand, processional extension of Regent Street, framed by statues of imperial figures and military leaders, and anchored by the restrained authority of Carlton House Terrace and the Athenaeum Club.

Into this landscape, Banksy introduces movement. The figure is not advancing toward a destination. Instead, he advances beyond one. The plinth offers no continuation, only an abrupt ending. The gesture of marching, so often associated with purpose and direction, becomes something else entirely. The figure cannot register what lies ahead. The flag, symbol of nation and identity, has eclipsed his vision.

This is Banksy‘s sharpest move. Rather than depicting a figure holding a flag, Banksy presents a figure absorbed by it. What remains visible is a suit, a posture, a stride that suggests certainty, yet without awareness.

Goddess of wisdom, she presides in stillness above the quiet choreography of power below. Now, within her gaze, another figure advances, face consumed, unaware that the ground beneath him is about to fall away.

The monuments surrounding Banksy’s new arrival were built to make power appear inevitable. His statue offers a different proposition. It urges a simple thought: look where you are going.
