PichiAvo Bespoke Commission: Escritor de los Mares
GraffitiStreet commissioned Spanish artist duo PichiAvo to create Escritor de los Mares, a unique artwork developed specifically for an overseas private collector and his home.
The collector admired PichiAvo’s distinctive fusion of classical imagery and graffiti but wanted an original work that would sit naturally within his existing interior. Following consultation with the collector and close liaison with the artists, GraffitiStreet invited PichiAvo to a London studio to create the commission.
Creating an Artwork for a Specific Interior
The brief was not simply to produce another PichiAvo artwork. The collector wanted a piece that retained the duo’s distinctive visual language while working naturally within the character and design of his home.
PichiAvo responded with Escritor de los Mares, combining the classical imagery and layers of contemporary graffiti that have become central to their practice.
The project demonstrates an important part of the commissioning process: the strongest bespoke artworks are not created by asking an artist to match a room. They come from finding the point where the collector’s vision, the surrounding space and the artist’s own practice can meet.
