Inebriated Wisdom

In Inebriated Wisdom, Steve Lazarides captures one of Banksy’s most provocative street sculptures: a cheeky parody of Rodin’s The Thinker now The Drinker. Reimagined with a traffic cone balanced on its head, the work riffs on Glasgow’s Duke of Wellington statue, where locals famously crown the figure with a cone in acts of playful defiance.

Lazarides, Banksy’s original photographer, agent, and close collaborator, was uniquely positioned to document such fleeting interventions. His photographs preserve not only the sculpture itself but the wit and subversive humour embedded in its placement.

Inebriated Wisdom exemplifies Lazarides’s role as custodian of Banksy’s legacy, offering collectors the chance to own not just an image of Banksy’s art, but a record of the world in which it lived. With much of Banksy’s early street practice now lost, Inebriated Wisdom endures as a rare artwork in its own right, distilling the irreverence and ingenuity of a cultural phenomenon at its ascent.
