Streets of Rage
In Streets of Rage, Steve Lazarides captures Banksy’s now-legendary Pulp Fiction mural at Old Street station, painted in 2002. The image reimagines Tarantino’s cult assassins, Travolta and Jackson, brandishing bananas instead of guns, a surreal twist that transforms violence into absurdity and satire.
Photographed by Lazarides, Banksy’s original collaborator and agent, the work is preserved here in its raw street context. Erased by Transport for London in 2007, the mural provoked widespread public outcry and inspired both an updated version and subsequent tributes, cementing its place in the mythology of early Banksy.
Streets of Rage exemplifies Lazarides’s role as custodian of Banksy’s legacy, offering collectors the chance to own not merely an image of a vanished work, but a vital record of its moment. With much of Banksy’s early street art erased, Lazarides’s photographs endure as artworks in their own right, preserving the wit, irreverence, and cultural charge of a movement at its rise.
