Street Artist Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada’s latest Mural brings Awareness to Sustainable Energy, Italy 2019

Barcelona based artist Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada has collaborated with Italian company Lavazza and the city of Turin for the initiative ‘TOward 2030 – What Are You Doing?’.

This project transforms the Global Goals of the United Nations into 17 works of street art, 2030 being the deadline established by the UN to transform the planet into a more sustainable place. Gerada’s wall focuses on Goal No 7, ‘Affordable and clean energy’.

The new mural ‘PROMISE’ is creating awareness about sustainable energy as part of Lavazza’s and the United Nations ‘Toward 2030’ project.

‘I created this mural to bring awareness to the need of ensuring access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all. The girl in the mural touches the icon button for the Toward 2030 goal number 7 and lets loose a flow of clean energy. The piece alludes to the importance of acting now to assure a positive outcome. We must think towards our world ́s future and the environmental conditions that our children will inherit. Three billion people (41 per cent of the world’s population) are still cooking with fuel and stoves that pollute. A billion people still do not have access to electricity. Electricity in the first world is still mainly obtained from polluting fuels. Our future energy sources must be clean and renewable. To reach this goal we must start now’. Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada

The murals are intended to shake people up and get them to act by asking the public, passersby and tourists a question that is as direct as it is provocative…” What are you doing?” … to remind everyone that 2030 is just around the corner, but that path to protecting the planet is still all uphill.

‘TOward 2030 is a marriage of art and sustainability that colours the walls of Turin with positive messages of responsible commitment and brings a contemporary pop perspective to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, in the form of 17 works of urban art that shows how innovative our city can be in raising awareness about these issues’. Francesca Lavazza

Other International artists involved in the project are Vesod, Zed1, Gomez, The Hula and Louis Masai to name a few.
