PichiAvo in Virginia: A GraffitiStreet Curated Mural

In 2017, GraffitiStreet curated PichiAvo’s large-scale mural Rivanna River by Poseidon for 5th Street Station in Charlottesville, Virginia. The work brought PichiAvo’s distinctive fusion of classical mythology and contemporary graffiti to a major architectural façade, transforming the building into a public artwork visible across the surrounding development.

Projects of this scale require more than selecting an artist. The success of a mural depends on the relationship between the artwork, architecture, location and audience, alongside the practical realities of producing work on a monumental surface.

From Artist Selection to Large-Scale Production

Large-scale mural projects require careful coordination between the artist, client, architecture and site. GraffitiStreet works across that process, from identifying the right artist and developing the creative direction to considering scale, surface, location and how the finished work will be experienced within its surroundings.

For PichiAvo’s Rivanna River by Poseidon at 5th Street Station in Charlottesville, Virginia, GraffitiStreet curated the project from the outset. Rosh Boroumand travelled to the United States, met with PichiAvo on site and worked directly with the artists and project partners throughout the commission. The relationship between the monumental façade, the surrounding development and PichiAvo’s distinctive fusion of classical mythology and graffiti was central to the project.

That hands-on involvement extended beyond introducing an artist. GraffitiStreet coordinated the commission and helped bring together the creative and practical elements required to realise the mural at architectural scale. From artist liaison and production planning to delivery on site, the project demonstrates how a successful mural develops through close collaboration rather than simply placing an image onto a wall.

For developers, businesses and organisations considering a major commission, that experience allows GraffitiStreet to guide a project from the initial idea through to the finished artwork, while protecting the integrity of the artist’s practice and ensuring the final work responds meaningfully to its location.
