Belgian Street Artist Nean Kingdom Unveils FLAG Mural in Quebec City

Belgian street artist Nean Kingdom has unveiled his latest large-scale mural, FLAG, in the heart of Quebec City. Organised by Québec Nova Murale and Street Art in Action, and supported by the City of Quebec, the project highlights the transformative role of art in public space.

Over ten days, Nean meticulously painted the corrugated metal wall, using many cans of spray paint to turn a functional surface into a radiant landmark. The mural’s energy lies not only in its scale but in its emotional resonance, drawing in both locals and visitors.

A Universal Message of Unity

Created against the backdrop of today’s turbulent geopolitical climate, FLAG captures a moment of calm that transcends borders: the universal beauty of sunrises and sunsets. Its warm palette of golds and oranges radiates serenity, encouraging passersby to pause, reflect, and connect.

“Given the current geopolitical context, I wanted to represent a calm moment, such as a sunrise or sunset, that brings everyone together. Located near a major road with heavy traffic, I wanted to create an image inspired by Quebec landscapes that could be understood immediately, like an explosion of warm, comforting colours.” Nean

Inspired by Quebec

Positioned along a busy roadway, the mural is designed to communicate instantly. Nean drew on Quebec’s landscapes, translating their vibrancy into a burst of colour that speaks even to those glimpsing it from traffic. In doing so, he bridges street art with the natural beauty that defines the region.
