Bache Unveils “Dream of Duality: A New Mural Inspired by Mayan Philosophy and Natural Balance
Bache has unveiled a new large-scale mural titled Dream of Duality (KAB’AWIL), painted in La Veleta, Tulum. The work draws from Mayan thought to explore the principle that all existence is shaped by two opposing yet complementary forces, and highlights the essential relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Rooted in Indigenous cosmology, Dream of Duality reflects a worldview in which the earthly and the spiritual coexist in everyday life, guided by what Bache describes as a divine spark that flows through each individual. The mural transforms an urban façade into a symbolic narrative of balance, memory, and environmental respect, positioning the street as a space for reflection and cultural continuity.

KAB’AWIL: Two Faces, Two Aspects
Central to the mural is the Mayan concept of KAB’AWIL, derived from two terms: Kab’, meaning “two,” and Awil, meaning “face” or “aspect.” Together, the word signifies Two Faces, Two Aspects, referencing the dual forces that shape the universe and human experience.
As the main figure, Bache presents a youthful protagonist representing innocence in the presence of the universe’s movement, veiling in their hair the shimmer of a cosmic expanse. The mural is punctuated by meaningful symbols that evoke collective memory, including a lunar earring and a radiant solar energy motif in the form of a macaw, connecting the celestial with the living world.

Nature as a Spiritual Force
A key message of the mural is the importance of humanity’s relationship with the environment as a foundation for balance. In Bache’s vision, plants are presented as souls, capable of influencing destiny and well-being. Through this imagery, Dream of Duality becomes both a poetic and urgent call to recognise nature as a living force, inseparable from human existence.

With Dream of Duality (KAB’AWIL), Bache continues his practice of creating murals that combine figurative realism with spiritual symbolism, offering public artworks that resonate across culture, history, and place. The mural contributes to Tulum’s evolving street art landscape while honouring ancestral thought through contemporary visual language. The mural can be found C. 8 Sur, La Veleta, 77760 Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
