From Grass to Game: Saype’s “Le terrain des Possibles” in Geneva

French-Swiss artist Saype unveiled his latest monumental land art fresco, Le terrain des Possibles (“The Field of Possibilities”), at the Parc de la Grange in Geneva, Switzerland.

Covering an impressive 8,500 square metres, the artwork was painted directly onto the grass using biodegradable pigments made from charcoal and chalk, a signature of Saype’s environmentally conscious practice.

Art and Sport: Universal Languages

This new fresco celebrates the connection between art and sport, two disciplines that transcend boundaries and speak across cultures. As Saype explains:

“Art and sport have the power to be a universal language that transcends barriers between human beings. Whether social, economic, or ethnic, these are disciplines that unite more than they divide. This is the message I wanted to convey here, through a poetic work depicting a child drawing what looks like a football pitch on the ground. She imagines her own field, in her own way, where no matter where one comes from: these lines become above all a place for sharing.”

The fresco depicts a child sketching a football field, a playful yet powerful metaphor for unity, inclusion, and the reimagining of shared space.

A Field of Imagination

By transforming a simple act of childhood play into a monumental landscape artwork, Saype invites viewers to reflect on the symbolic power of sport: a space where rules can be rewritten, where differences are set aside, and where imagination becomes the true referee.

The “field of possibilities” is not just a football pitch it is an invitation to envision a world where connection, creativity, and solidarity triumph over division.

Ephemeral but Lasting

Like all of Saype’s frescoes, Le terrain des Possibles is temporary, blending with the environment and eventually fading back into the earth. Yet, its message endures: that both art and sport remind us of what it means to come together, to share, and to play on common ground.
