Portuguese Artist Restless Brings His Playful Characters to Sebastianas Festival 2025
This year’s Sebastianas festival in Freamunde had an extra splash of colour thanks to Portuguese street artist Restless, whose bold, cartoon-style characters have been brightening urban walls across Europe. Known for his signature yellow figures, playful expressions, and scenes inspired by everyday life, Restless brought his unique style to one of Portugal’s most beloved celebrations.
The mural, painted specially for Sebastianas 2025, captures the energy and humour of the festival. At its centre, a cheerful character carries the iconic “Vaca de Fogo” (Fire Cow) a nod to one of the celebration’s most famous traditions. Around him, friends and festival-goers laugh, chat, and raise a beer, while fireworks explode overhead. Restless’s distinctive style, black outlines, bright colours, and exaggerated features turns the wall into a joyful snapshot of community life.

Every detail is rooted in Freamunde’s culture. From the bunting strung across the sky to the crowd gathered in balconies, the mural is a love letter to the social spirit of Sebastianas. Restless’s characters are instantly recognisable: friendly, expressive, and just a little mischievous. They invite the viewer to step into the scene, as if you could almost hear the music, smell the food, and feel the summer night air.
For over 120 years, Sebastianas has combined sacred tradition with lively street celebrations, and this mural reflects that blend perfectly, a modern piece of art honouring a long-standing heritage. Restless’s new mural becomes part of the living memory of the festival, capturing the joy, camaraderie, and creativity that make Sebastianas so special.
