Toward the Horizon: Saype’s New Fresco in the Swiss Alps
French-Swiss artist Saype has returned to the Swiss Alps with a powerful new fresco, unveiled on July 18th, 2025, on the Grand Chamossaire slope in Villars-sur-Ollon. Titled Vers l’horizon (“Toward the Horizon”), the monumental land art piece spans 2,500 square meters and continues the poetic narrative the artist began in Villars several years ago.
A Child Steps Forward
For those following Saype’s alpine saga, the central figure of a child is familiar. In past works, he has built, observed, contemplated, and drawn, each gesture a metaphor for inner growth. This time, however, the child rises. Standing tall on the mountain ridge, his gaze fixed firmly on the horizon, he is poised to cross a threshold.

It’s a simple act, yet it resonates deeply: the move from stillness into action, from reflection into adventure. The horizon becomes more than a backdrop, it symbolises possibility, promise, and the open future that awaits.

Symbols of Growth
Surrounding the child are recurring motifs from Saype’s earlier frescoes:
- A cairn, guiding balance and direction.
- Books, vessels of knowledge and memory.
- A sketchbook, a space of imagination.
- A pillow, tender reminder of dreams and rest.
Together, these symbols form an inner architecture — the scaffolding of identity built through experience, learning, and hope.
Art in Harmony with Nature
As always, Saype painted the fresco using biodegradable pigments made from charcoal and chalk, ensuring the artwork will naturally fade back into the landscape. This deliberate impermanence underscores the fragility of both art and nature, reminding viewers of the fleeting yet powerful impact of human creation.

A Message for the Future
With Vers l’horizon, Saype delivers a universal message: having gathered wisdom, imagination, and courage, it is time to rise and walk into the unknown. The fresco speaks not just of a child’s journey, but of humanity’s collective leap toward new horizons.
