Renowned Polish artist Nespoon has unveiled her latest mural in Nowogród, created at the invitation of the Adam Chętnik Foundation (@fundacjaadamachetnika). Known for her poetic use of lace motifs, Nespoon once again bridges folk tradition with contemporary art, transforming architectural walls into delicate textiles of history and memory.

Inspired by Kurpie Lace
The design of this mural draws directly from the intricate lace pattern of a traditional apron, part of the folk costume of the Kurpie region. The source material was no ordinary textile: the apron was lovingly handmade by Mrs. Czesława Lewandowska, a talented folk artist who continues the practice of crafting several of these exquisite lace aprons each year.

In enlarging the motif and transferring it onto the urban canvas of Nowogród, Nespoon reframes domestic craft as monumental public art. What once adorned a costume becomes a city’s ornament, uniting heritage and community in a shared visual language.

Tradition Meets Modernity
Through Nespoon efforts, lace, a practice often confined to the realm of folk art, is reimagined within the contemporary sphere. The mural is a dialogue: between past and present, between the quiet work of hands and the monumental scale of walls, between local identity and universal beauty.

In Nowogród, Nespoon has woven the stories of the Kurpie people into the fabric of the city itself, ensuring that cultural memory is preserved and celebrated in the most visible of ways.
