RainBird Mural: HOXXOH’s Monumental Colour Field
This large-scale mural title RainBird pushed abstraction into new territory through an unconventional application method using pressurised spray systems inspired by irrigation tools.
Rather than relying on traditional aerosol gestures, the artist employed gardening hoses and custom nozzles to propel paint across the wall. The result was a vast atmospheric gradient that feels less painted and more released into space.

The Technique Behind RainBird
At the core of RainBird is velocity as paint is projected under pressure, allowing gravity and airflow to shape the final composition. Sweeping transitions from cobalt blue to deep magenta, fiery orange, and luminous yellow create immersive color fields that shift with natural light.
Vertical drips remain visible, emphasising the physicality of the process. The mural retains its immediacy, preserving the trace of movement and material.
This method challenges expectations of muralism. Instead of figurative storytelling, the wall becomes an expansive chromatic environment.

Scale and Atmosphere
Installed across an industrial façade, RainBird transforms an otherwise minimal architectural surface into a horizon line of saturated colour. Rounded arches frame the gradient like portals, while shadows from surrounding trees animate the surface throughout the day.
From a distance, the mural reads as a seamless spectrum. Up close, layers of atomised pigment and subtle tonal shifts reveal complexity. The piece feels meteorological, like witnessing a sunrise stretched horizontally across concrete.

Process as Performance
Created using lift equipment and a small working team, the execution of RainBird became a performative act in itself. The machinery, hoses, and elevated platform formed part of the visual choreography.
The technique resists precision in favour of responsiveness. Each pass of pressurised paint introduces subtle irregularities, reinforcing the dialogue between control and unpredictability that defines HOXXOH’s broader practice.
