Very Little Helps is one of Banksy’s most recognisable and subversive works, first appearing in 2008. It depicts a group of children in a supermarket-style formation, pledging allegiance not to a flag, but to Tesco shopping bags. The imagery is deliberately unsettling. By replacing a symbol of national identity with a corporate logo, Banksy critiques the rise of consumerism and how deeply it shapes modern values from an early age. The title itself is a sharp twist on Tesco’s slogan, exposing the gap between marketing promises and societal reality.
