In Eastern Quoll, discarded materials converge to form a creature both vulnerable and defiant. Fragments of plastic, broken objects, and waste remnants assemble into fur, whiskers, and the distinctive spotted coat of the quoll, giving presence to what would otherwise remain refuse. Once widespread across mainland Australia and now largely confined to Tasmania, the Eastern Quoll stands here as both subject and symbol. The sculpture balances urgency with tenderness. The animal appears alert, almost fragile, yet it is constructed from the very debris threatening natural habitats worldwide. Waste becomes witness. By transforming pollution into living form, Bordalo II holds destruction and renewal within the same frame, compelling viewers to confront the consequences of consumption while recognising the possibility of transformation within it.
