NeSpoon’s Illegals series documents the lace stencils the artist has used in street interventions since 2019. While widely known for large-scale murals, this body of work focuses on her unsanctioned stencil graffiti practice. Each motif originates from antique lace designs that NeSpoon collects and studies. The patterns are translated into hand-cut stencils and repeatedly painted across city walls through bombing, allowing the motif to circulate through different urban environments. For the canvas works, NeSpoon first reconstructs the texture and colour of aged facades, evoking the surfaces that host her street interventions. She then applies the same stencils used outdoors. The canvas therefore functions as an archive, preserving her lace stencil bombing across the city.
