Banksy Raises £205,000 to Oppose an Arms Fair in London’s Docklands, 2017

The Banksy artwork donated to “Art the Arms fair” has sold for £205,000 at auction.

“Art the Arms fair” is an exhibition set up to oppose the “Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) fair“, held at the Excel centre in London’s Docklands, which hosts more than 1,600 exhibitors from 54 countries running from 12-15 September. Read more here.

The artwork by Banksy was called “Civilian Drone Strike” and depicts drones ahead destroying a child-like drawing of a house while a little girl and her dog watch on in horror.

The money raised will be split between two organisations CAAT Campaign Against Arms Trade, which seeks to abolish the international arms trade, and Reprieve, which fights for human rights.

A number of other artists, including high-profile artists and activists, have also contributed work to the Art the Arms Fair exhibition, including Peter Kennard, Guerilla Girls and Darren Cullen. The one below is called ‘No words’ by Sarah Dosomah drawn specifically for Art the Arms Fair.
