Street Artists Monkey Bird and Said Dokins Secret Messages, France 2016

Monkey Bird and Said Dokins recently collaborated in Bordeaux with this huge mural entitled: “Le message secret / The secret message”. The wall measures a huge 300 m2 and was organised by Pole Magnetic Street Art Bordeaux.

Monkey Bird uses stencil and alludes to the ancient ‘platonic solids’, and creates a series of unfinished characters like ‘guardians of knowledge’.

Said Dokins, uses his signiture calligraphy style and medieval letters to talk about the idea of eternal return, inscribing texts that refer to the possibilities and limitations of philosophy and the importance of the text as a legacy of the consciousness through time.

The mural fuses geometry and poetic text and the relationship between the artists individual styles works beautifully. The golden tones also work with the surroundings…

Some of the texts that can be read on the wall are fragments of the philosopher Walter Benjamin:

“Knowledge comes only in lightning flashes. The text is the long roll of thunder that follows”

“Like ultraviolet rays memory shows to each man in the book of life a script that invisibly and prophetically glosses the text”
