The NaturalMente (Natural Mind) mural by Oniro can be found in the Italian town of Acuto. It is a stunning representation of the intricate relationship between humans and nature and beautifully depicts the idea that we are all connected.
Oniro spoke about the title behind the artwork, saying, “NaturalMente is a play on words Nature + Mind, but in Italian “Naturalmente” means Naturally“

The NaturalMente mural features two trees on either side that form a side portrait, with one tree in the middle representing the brain and spinal cord. The phenomenon known as crown shyness is used to symbolise the brain, which creates a unique and beautiful representation of the intricate relationship between humans and nature. The mural reminds us that we are all connected and nature plays a vital role in our lives.

“There are patterns in nature that manifest themselves on different levels from the micro to the macro cosmos: the conformation of trees, neural networks, the dark matter of the universe, the intricate fungal branches underground that allow plants to communicate with each other… All these situations have in common that they are articulated in a branching system that creates relationships between living beings. We are interconnected with the habitat, permeated by this cosmic intelligence that designs matter. NaturalMente (Natural Mind) is the mind of nature.”

The artist elaborates on the intricate patterns found in nature and sheds light on the fascinating phenomenon of the ‘wood wide web’. This refers to the network of fungal connections that allow trees to communicate with each other, even sharing nutrients and information when a tree is unwell or has been cut down. It’s a remarkable example of the interconnectedness and interdependence of the natural world.
